Bottle Cap Ornament

Bottle Cap Ornament

What to do with all those bottle caps?  I save all of our bottle caps so that I can craft with them!  These bottle cap coasters were so much fun to make.  Now, of course I’m also feeling a little festive (it is only a week until Christmas!).  That led to this week’s tutorial!  So so easy 🙂  Read on to find out how to decorate your space while upcycling!

You will need:

– Bottle caps

– Cardboard (and self-healing cutting mat, if you have one)

– Hammer

– Glue gun

– Scissors

First, decide what pattern or shape you want to make.  This is the fun part! I got a little excited and started hammering bottle caps before I took the picture.

What nail does a carpenter NOT want to hit?  His thumbnail!  Super corny joke, but seriously, I hit my thumb a few times, so be careful.  The best way to do this, I found, was to have the silver side up, and hit all around the edges.  Once the sides of the bottle cap slanted out a bit more, I flipped the cap over, and finished my hammering from the top.  Just play around until you find the best way that works for you.

Look!  They’re all flat!!  Lay the flattened bottle caps on the cardboard, and trace an outline.  Cut out your cardboard shape, and then use hot glue to attach your bottle caps to the cardboard.

That’s it!  Really!  What shape ornament did you make?  Share in the comments below, on our Facebook page, or on Instagram and tag @kniftycraftyandcute!

Happy crafting! <3 Caitlyn
