1 Easy Tip to Declutter Your Closet

Closet 1

Okay, confession time.  I have way too many clothes.  But it’s so hard to give them away because hey, I wore that shirt to that thing the one time.  Here’s the trick I use to declutter my closet, keep myself honest, and make sure I donate the clothes that I actually don’t wear.

This tip works best  if you have a set up where you hang your clothes.  Here’s my closet.  Keep in mind these are only tops that go on hangers (I already told you I have a problem haha).  The green line and arrow on the left show clothes that I’ve worn recently – i.e. in the last 10 days.  The light blue line and arrow on the right point out clothes that I haven’t worn in 6 months to 1 year (or longer – yikes!)

It’s super easy.  Just make sure you always hang your freshly cleaned clothes on the same side of your closet.  Any time something comes out of the wash, it goes on the left side.  That means, that after a while, all the clothes on the right side haven’t been touched in a long time.  There’s none of that “oh, no, I definitely wore that, maybe, recently-ish” doubt.  Now, I’m not saying I always behave and consistently donate everything I don’t wear, but it certainly clarifies things haha It’s also useful because then I go to the right side of my closet, and I can see all the tops I haven’t worn in a long time.  Shopping in your own closet is exciting, because it’s FREE 🙂
